HSAAlumni Newsletter – May 2011
Our momentum continues to build as we continue to grow and develop more ways to service our program’s community.
Alumni/Student Activities. In the past year, we have provided a number of services to our Alumni and students that include:
- An enhanced website at: www.hsaalumni.org where you now have the ability to vote, submit donations, search for career opportunities, and keep up with HSA Alumni news and events.
- Our HSAAlumni group on LinkedIn (www.linkedin.com) now has over 90 of our alumni connected where events, notices and job opportunities are posted.
- Quarterly regional networking events where Alumni, students, and faculty gather to socialize, discuss our industry, and explore career opportunities
- Offering ACHE Conference stipends for program students.
- Participation in the New Graduate Send-Off Reception.
New Committees. There are also 2 new committees making great progress. The Membership Committee, chaired by Ken West is charged with broadening the participation of all our alumni. The Committee is focused by Class to improve response. The Student Activities Committee, chaired by Laura Fedge is charged with working with HEGU leadership to increase student/alumni activities. They’ve already identified a number of activities for the coming year.
Merger with GUAA. Our negotiations with the Georgetown University Alumni Association GUAA) have been restarted with the Acting Dean. The HSAAlumni Board continues to support the merger but want to make sure it will be structured to maintain The HSAAlumni as a competitive alumni organization compare to other healthcare executive programs. Once we have developed a revised set of Bylaws that meets the requirements of the School and the GUAA we will send it out to all Alumni for your approval.
ACHE Stipend. This year’s ACHE Stipend of $300 was awarded to James Cervantes ’12. The program also sponsored a dinner for students, faculty and alumni attending the meeting. We had a record number of our Alumni attending the dinner.
Letter from the President
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It’s time for our annual elections and membership renewal. As we did last year we’re conducting the elections and membership renewal via our web site www.hsaalumni.org . We look forward to your vote. Here are the steps to complete the process:
- Update your profile. Log on to www.hsaalumni.org , go to your profile and update contact and other information. It is important that your profile stay updated so we can contact you about important events and the Program uses this profile to send out its annual survey.
- Vote. Click on the 2011 Election tab. Click on the link to to go to this year’s elections done through Survey Monkey. This year the nominating committee has nominated 3 existing Board Members to a second term, 5 new Board members and also nominated President, President-Elect, Secretary and Treasurer.
- Make a Contribution. Click on the Annual Contribution/Donate tab. Contributions can be made using PayPal or a check mailed to the address listed. This is the second year we switched from annual dues to encouraging all alumni to make a contribution at whatever level they can. All contributions are tax deductible. Contributions are a critical component of building the HSAAlumni’s financial strength and support our annual operations. Specifically the funds go to maintain our PO Box, the HSAAlumni website and not-for-profit filing fees. We’ve also been able to provide a stipend to one student to attend the annual ACHE meeting and assist with the graduating class send-off reception.
As always, we are interested in your input regarding how we can continue to improve our program and the services we offer. Please feel free to contact any of the board members or myself with any suggestions you may have.
Thank you for being a part of HSA Alumni. I am looking forward to another great year!
Warmest regards,
Shirin L. Byrd ‘08
